The Secretary of State, Education and Philanthropist, Betsy DeVos

She is the 11th secretary of state for Education in the United States of America. She has been in the education sector for more than 30 years. Betsy DeVos has a goal of advocating for small children and voicing the cries of parents who are not able to afford private education for their kids. She likes it if all kids would have quality education in the whole of the country.

Betsy DeVos’ mother was a teacher, and she used to encourage her to pursue education, and she wanted her to one day provide the education to the young. She has been serving the children as a mentor in the Grand Rapids area in Michigan. Calvin College is where she had her studies and got her BA degree. She is a reformer in the things that she does, whatever projects always turn into the pride of the USA. This positive attitude towards work has always been in her family. Her husband, Dick DeVos is also working with her, and he was the Republican nominee for Governor of Michigan. Read her interview with Philantrophy Table.

With her upbringing, she has made sure that kids from the poor places in the state and the entire country are taken to goods schools. They target to take the kids into schools that have a favorable environment and safety. With her husband, they helped Latino parents send children to private schools. Betsy has always been generous helping low-income earning parents by taking their kids to the right schools.

Betsy DeVos started a foundation that had an objective of sponsoring hard working kids. The parents are the ones that will choose the school for children to go. The scholarship was outstanding, but all kids were not able to get a chance to use this foundation because the finances could only support a few.

Her efforts in the 90s were to become a board member in two charitable organizations those are, Children First America and the American Education Reform Council that was going to allow the members and stakeholders to increase the number of schools that children could choose from. Vouchers and tax credits were going to be used, and this project was started in Michigan where she expanded the charter schools in Michigan. The expansion gave her the idea to form the Great Lakes Education Project.

Great Lakes Education Project made her head the American Federation for Children. The Late John Watson founded the Federation together with Betsy’s husband. It changed the name to All Children Matter. The people who were advocating for choosing schools worked with her in the Alliance for School Choice that was an organization helping parents know about the need for quality schooling. Law makers were given advice on how to implement the education requirements. Visit Betsy’s profile page on Facebook.
